Helping the Homeless

Once more, we proved that Philippine Prudential Life is not just about life insurance.

Last March 29, about 40 of the company’s employees, led by AVP for Alternative Markets Greggy Mercado and People Management & Development Asst. Training Manager Sheryl Temple, spared their time and effort to help Gawad Kalinga (GK) in the construction of a “GK Village”, a compound for informal settlers in Taguig City. Aside from manpower, the company also donated construction materials and tools.

Hundreds of impoverished families stand to benefit from the project.

“Gawad Kalinga is about community development and poverty alleviation while Philippine Prudential Life is about livelihood development and poverty prevention,” said our AVP.

Philippine Prudential Life’s partnership with Gawad Kalinga began in 2006, initiated by our President & CEO Gregorio D. Mercado. This was when Philippine Prudential Life and the Philippine Life Insurance Association (PLIA) helped finance the construction of a similar project by Gawad Kalinga in Rodriguez town (formerly Montalban) in Rizal province.

Soon, the company is also setting its sights on its very own “PPL Village” through its alliance with Gawad Kalinga.

“We (Philippine Prudential Life and Gawad Kalinga) have the same vision because nation building is also the heart of our business. We walk parallel paths (with Gawad Kalinga),” added the younger Mercado.

Gawad Kalinga is an organization that cares and looks after the welfare of indigent Filipinos and victims of natural disasters and other catastrophes. Philippine Prudential Life employees who wish to volunteer their services and be part of Gawad Kalinga can contact AVP Greggy Mercado at 703-55-99 for details.
