The National Reinsurance Corporation of the Philippines (NRCP) was established on December 22, 1977 under Presidential Decree No. 1270, and was designated as the national institution authorized to subscribe to the portion of capital stock of Asian Reinsurance Corporation allotted to the Republic of the Philippines. The latter was established to foster regional cooperation among insurance companies doing business in Asia.


It was subsequently incorporated on June 7, 1978 as a domestic professional reinsurance firm to provide life and non-life reinsurance to the Philippines and its neighboring insurance markets.


On January 15, 2007, NRCP received approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to use the names and styles of Philippine National Reinsurance or “PhilNaRe”.

PhilNaRe is the only domestic professional reinsurance company in the Philippines today.

PhilNaRe has been Philippine Prudential’s reinsurer since January 1, 1995.

On January 2008, Philippine Prudential entered into a Treaty Reinsurance Agreement with Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group Berhad (MLRe)

MLRe is a joint venture between the Reinsurance Group of America (RGA) and the members of the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM). MLRe commenced business in 1997 and now commands the largest reinsurance market share in Malaysia. It is the leader in Malaysia’s facultative life reinsurance market today.

SCOR Global Life has been Philippine Prudential’s Reinsurer since 2006.

A subsidiary of the SCOR group which operates in over 120 countries around the world, SCOR Global Life was born in 2006 from the merger of SCOR Vie which is  a leading French Reinsurer; and Revios, a former life reinsurance unit of GERLING GLOBAL Re of Germany.
